Monday we started talking about different Rainforest animals. We started off our week with the Morpho butterfly. Morpho butterflies are normally blue, but we thought we would add some more color. We have four tables so each table had a different color (blue, yellow, orange and red). We worked really hard on these butterflies and learned that Morphos butterflies are the largest butterflies in the world with a wingspan of five to eight inches. They mostly live in South and Central America. The female is less vivid in color than the male. As well we did our letter project this week - W is for Watermelon. We are getting so close to the end of the alphabet!
| Tuesday we talked about different types of snakes. Before we painted we talked about how there are different types of snakes in the rainforest. There are big, little, poisonous, nice and mean snakes in the rainforest. The biggest snake in the rainforest is the anaconda. It can grow to be up to be 250 feet long and weigh over 200 pounds! We painted paper plates with multiple different colors to make them vibrant and beautiful. Then when they dried I cut them in a circular way to create a wavy snake. Then we added a tongue and eyes. The kids were jumping off their cots during nap to take them home! :) |
Wednesday we had centers and gym class. During gym class we worked with the parachute again. We are working hard on listening to directions and lifting it the highest we can go, then letting go.
| Thursday we made Chameleon Twisters. Again we had paint our paper plates multiple colors. We watched a video about chameleons and learned about them, how they change their color, why they change color and what colors they can turn. We learned that only the male chameleon can change colors and the female cannot. The girls al asked, "well then what is she supposed to do when something is coming to eat her!?" The boys and some of the girls said, "maybe she puts her tail in front of her face and then they can't see her. Or she hides!" Then once they were dry I put the chameleon part on the top. A chameleon was cut out of the top plate. They were put on top of one another so that when we twisted them the chameleon would turn colors. It was another beautiful day outside!! :) |
Friday... where did the nice weather go? The snow is back!! To try and make the nice weather come back and end our week of rainforest animals we made our MaCaws! They look like parrots and they are cousins of the parrot so the kids were on the right track. They worked so hard and listened when they were given directions with how to put their MaCaw together! Great job! When we got to go outside today they were BEYOND EXCITED to go play in the newly fallen snow. Great job this week 4K friends and congratulations to Ms. Sawyer for becoming the DOJO champion this week and Noah from last week! :) Have a great weekend and drive safe! :)
