| During centers Tuesday and Wednesday we painted with "snow" - shaving cream, elmers glue, iridescent glitter and a little peppermint extract. We made snowmen with this paint that puff up when they dry. After done painting we put the hat, nose and buttons on the picture so that while it dried it would act as a glue. |
Monday we talked about Las Posadas. Las Posadas is Christmas in Mexico. They celebrate the journey that Mary and Joseph make from Nazareth to Bethlehem. The children in Mexico make/have dolls that are very colorful and bright holding Joseph, Mary and a candle. So the 4K friends got to make their own Las Posadas puppets. They did a great job with their coloring and cuttig out of their pieces. As well we had our first Christmas Concert rehersal at the high school auditorium. They loved seeing the auditorium and practicing with the big kids. Anytime to get on the bus a take a "field trip" they love.
Tuesday we talked about Chinese New Year and why they celebrate it/when. Then we did DOJO prizes. The kiddos are doing a great job earning those points and trying their best to earn those big prizes. We also worked on our letter N project- N is for night. They used white crayons to draw stars on their N's and yellow chalk to add a moon and/or more stars. We also had our last rehersal before our big show at the high school today.
Wednesday we had gym at the coommunity center and we talked more about Christmas and what we know about it. Mary and Joseph are Jesus' parents on earth and God is his father in heaven. We worked hard in centers and are doing our best to get ready for this Christmas holiday coming up. As well we had our Christmas Concert! Thank you to everyone that came and showed their support to our 4K friends as well as the rest of our school. They all worked so hard to put on a great production for you all.
Thursday - Kwanzaa - centers, talked about the celebration while reading some of a book Seven Candles for Kwanzaa. Colored a picture of the kinara (candle holder), corn and cup for Kwanzaa. Had to make sure we used the correct colors so that we respected the culture and tradition. Red for the blood shed, Green for the land and Black for the people.

Friday we talked about Hanukkah and what they do during this holiday. We talked about the traditions and read a book about a little girl who was Jewish and did not celebrate Christmas but still had Jesus in her heart and life. We finally got to go outside for the first time ALL WEEK!! :) The kids were so excited! Eli got the best birthday present ever having the snow come out! The first thing they all did was lay in the snow and make some snow angels. Then they all went down at least 5 times each down the "super fast" slide. :)
