This week we were talking about the letter Qq and different forms of transportation! We found that there are three different types of transportation: land, water and air. This week we made transportation flip books where we dug into land, water and air transportation. Then we created stop lights using ripped paper. Talking about what the colors mean: yellow - slow, green - go and red - stop! They are doing a very good job following directions and being able to now copy things from the board. I wrote the three words on the board and they were to write them next to the proper color. Quote of the week: "Transportation, repeat after me, transportation... Molly - Transformers!" As well we were working on the letter Qq and reviewing the letter Pp this week! We have been working extra hard seeing as the lowercase of these letters are very similar and can be confused. They did a great job on their letter project and are cruising along in their learning. I am very proud of all of the progress my 4K friends have made, are making and still will be making! Driving into next week we will be talking about community helpers. :) Have a great weekend!
Again we have been also working on our phone numbers and addresses during our small group time during centers. I brought in 5 "older" phones for our use in practicing our phone numbers. We practice them by putting in our phone number into the phone and saying it aloud 2-3 times. Then we hang up our phones and prepare for a phone call. Now this entails that I say a phone number while punching it into my phone and the person who the number belongs to answers - they then tell me their phone number and their address. This week they got to use their sheets to help them, next week they will have one day of review and then they have to start practicing without the sheets. When I brought the phones in on Monday it was really funny to hear what they all had to say, "What are those? Those are phones... are you sure??" Then when practicing I had to teach them what side was the ear piece and mouth piece because they were answering them upside down.
As well we have been using our bodies outside as modes of transportation going down our HUGE snow hill by the playground! We are having a lot of fun outside, sliding down the hills, building forts, and building "Olafs".
