Welcome to our week talking about apples! We made apple cores! We have a large apple core that I created with labels on it. We talked about what the different parts of the apple were and that we have some of those same things too: flesh, skin, a core, etc. But we also talked about if you eat the middle of the apple completely and just leave the top and bottom it looks like there are three parts to the apple in a way. Just like the sign of the cross and the Holy Family. The top is the father, middle is the son and the bottom is the holy spirit. We worked really hard on doing our sign of the cross correctly and they are doing a great job. On our apple cores we put the labels of the apple around the apple core, but also the labels: father, son and holy spirit. We did this to remind ourselves that without God, without the Holy Family we would not be here or have apples.
5 or more colors rule! :) On Monday we talked about the 5 or more crayon "rule of thumb". What this means is when we are doing a project, or we are coloring something for our mom's and dad's; to make it more interesting and full of life/color, we should use 5 or more colors. I have noticed if I don't implement this early on that I get papers or projects that have one solid color or maybe two very similar colors. This "rule of thumb" gets them away from this tendency right from the beginning and the quickly realize they become more creative than before adding colors throughout. (A good book to reference for this is The Day the Crayons Quit. We have this book as well as the sequel in our classroom library if you would like to borrow! :) |
On Tuesday we were working some more on our first and last names as you all should have received their apples coming home. Mrs. Johnson created our apples for us and cut them out, THANK YOU! So the kids each got their bag and had to put the apple back together to create their first name. If they didn't put it in the right order they knew right away because the apple would look silly! Then after they were done doing this I had them practice on their white boards writing their first and last names. As well our friend Noah had a great idea! "Why don't we trace on our name tags!?" That was such a great idea! So they got to "write on the table" aka trace over their names on their name tags which helped some that were having a hard time. :)
As you can see in some of the pictures, some did not want to stop at the white boards they decided to write their names in chalk! You go friends! As well they added their own hopscotch to Mrs. Johnson's and made it the length of the parking lot! How awesome!

On Wednesday, wow we had a busy day!! We had gym right away when we got here that morning, we had specials, then we made our Bb bumble bees and talked about the sound and the formation of that letter and the fun and fit walk! Oh my goodness all of this and NO NAP! They were all so exhausted by the end of the day they were begging for a nap, when some usually do not want to. Thank you to Mrs. Ledvina, Mrs. Jadin and other parents, staff and volunteers for walking with us! :) We walked for 30 minutes for the fun and fit walk! :) YAY 4K!
On Thursday we had a busy day again! We got to paint with apples! We made a small class picture using halved apples and yellow, green & red paint! As well some of us got to play in sand and work on writing out our names! At recess our main activity was playing hide and go seek as a class. And at afternoon recess we were able to come outside and finish reading our book under the tree on the playground. We had a great day!
Friday we got to test different kinds of apples and apple products! Each of our friends were able to test out the following things: green apple, red apple, yellow apple, apple cider and apple sauce! We took a poll and it looks like we were split between red and yellow being our favorites, some liked only one, or two or some even liked all three! Proud of my 4K friends taking on the challenge of trying new things.
Happy weekend all, see you next week!
