Monday we read the book Lunch by: Denise Fleming. In the book the mouse is eating multiple fruits and vegetables. As he moves along little pieces of these fruits and vegetables are on the mouse creating a rainbow of foods. The student's then used Q-tips to make a mouse resembling the mouse in the book using multiple colors from the book. Once they were dry I labeled each food depending on the color and what it represented in the book.
| Tuesday we continued our week of nutrition and healthy eating. To continue this week we made some pizza glyphs. The boys had full pizzas and the girls had a pizza with a piece cut out. There were different toppings representing different things about the student. Pepperonis - how old they are, olives - 1 they don't like vegetables 2 they do like vegetables, mushrooms - number of people in your family, peppers- 1 I don't like pizza, 2 I like pizza and 3 I love pizza. These were made to learn more about one another and to show differences between boys and girls. We had healthy options for toppings. |
Wednesday we had centers (which will be changing up next week). We had gym at the community center today!:) As well Father Suess came in and blessed us with the ashes for Ash Wednesday! :) The snow is back! We also got a new door for the rest of the year. "Let your light shine". Matthew 5:16
| Friday we talked about My Plate and where we can find it at our school. We created plates with the five different food groups we need in our diet on them. (Grains, vegetables, fruits, protein and dairy) We learned that we can find the My Plate chart downstairs in the cafeteria by the milk cooler and it helps our cooks make our healthy lunches. Then we talked about what food would be in each section. During our center time we tried something new. We played with letters and play dough. Fridays we are going to try and do something different during our center time to learn but also do some fun activities - baking, play dough, slime, experiments. |
