Flowers, flowers, flowers!

On Monday we learned about the different parts of a flower. We learned that there are 4 parts of the flower. There is the actual flower, the stem, the leaves and then the roots that hold the flower in the ground and allow for it to grow. The students had to use a Q-tip to paint their flowers into a beautiful pattern or design. Then they had to cut out their stem and leaves. Then their parts were labeled and they were ready to go up in the hallway.
On Tuesday we talked about how things grow (plants and flowers) what do they need to grow? (Water, sunlight, somewhere to grow, and plant food) We created our own little green houses that we planted beans in. They were plants on 04/27 and we will keep you updated on their growth progress!
On Wednesday, we went for a nature adventure outside! We needed to look for things in nature. Before this we talked about the fact that if it is still connected to the tree, do not take it because it is still living. If it is on the ground, we may take it to enjoy. We took bags outside and brought some nature inside the classroom to look at closer. Then to make sure nature kept on going we brought it back into nature.

On Thursday, we made our Chrysanthemum flower names. We first read the book by Kevin Henkes, Chrysanthemum. This book is all about accepting our names and realizing they were given to us for a reason and they all have meaning and beauty behind them. We talked about the meaning of some of our friends names. Then we started work on our "my name is unique" flowers. The students had to create their name in the petals, write their name on the line and count the correct number of letters in their name and write that number. They turned out great and they all love their names even more!

On Friday, it was so nice out and we had been having such a cloudy/gloomy week, we decided to take a nature walk outside before computers. We took the time to walk quietly, listen to the birds, observe the beauty around them. We heard frogs, birds, saw a "squirrel home" but no squirrels. They all said it was great to get outside and get that fresh air.

Below in the video, Laney was such an awesome friend and saw Dylan struggling to get on the swing by himself. She taught him a new way to do it and he got it! :) Way to go Dylan and thank you Laney for being a great friend!
