Hello 4K families!
I just wanted to let you know that we are having trouble with all grades eating or throwing snow this winter. :( Mrs. Seidl and Mrs. Johnson, as well as our other amazing recess women have reminded our St. Mary's friends not to throw snow (dangerous) and not to eat the snow because we can get sick from it. As well the teachers and Mr. B have talked with our St. Mary's friends. If you could remind your student(s) about these things as well it would be great. I really appreciate all of your help and support.

4K did an experiment in January when we first got snow to see the difference of when the snow looks nice and clean to our eyes, but in reality when it melts its really "yucky"!! As you can see by the bag of snow, not what we want to be eating. We have talked about not eating the snow outside, obvious reasons outside is the animal kingdom's bathroom, etc. Still I was getting questioned, "Why can't we eat the snow? It looks clean!" Well then out comes the ziplock bag and out into the playground we go to get some snow! Now the kids know why we do not eat the snow. What may look really pretty and sparkly, isn't good to eat seeing as it has, dirt, road salt, and being an animals bathroom as well. So we melted down the snow in our classroom which did not take long at all and above is the picture of before and after. As you can see it is not so white anymore but water with dirt, etc. in it. But we did also come to the conclusion that it is ok to eat the snow when it is falling from the sky on your tongue, but nothing else!
